Jun 30, 2026
- Signed with a global investment-grade utility, it is the largest PPA in terms of volume signed by the company to date
- It will be supplied by Elena, the largest battery plant in the Americas, with a nominal installed capacity of 3.5 GWh (3 GW net) and plans to expand to 7 GWh (6 GW net)
Madrid, June 30, 2026. Grenergy has signed in Chile the largest power purchase agreement (PPA) in terms of volume signed by the company to date: long-term energy supply contract covering non-solar hours with a global utility rated investment grade by the leading credit rating agencies.
The agreement provides for the supply of 1 TWh annually over a 15-year period and is scheduled to come into effect between July and October 2026. The energy will be delivered by Elena, the largest battery storage project in the Americas, which currently has 3.5 GWh of installed gross capacity (3 GW net), already in operation, and is expected to expand to 7 GWh (6 GW net).
The announcement of the PPA coincides with the recent inauguration of the facility, located in the Antofagasta region of Chile. The ceremony was led by the President of Chile, José Antonio Kast Rist, and attended by national and regional authorities, including Minister of Energy Ximena Rincón and Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation Ximena Lincolao. Elena, the most ambitious project developed by the company to date, already comprises 624 battery containers and 6,240 battery units.
Oasis de Atacama: a pioneering platform and an exportable model
Elena is part of Oasis de Atacama, Grenergy’s solar and energy storage platform, which was recently expanded to 2.5 GW of solar capacity and 14.1 GWh of storage as part of its 2028 roadmap. This hybridisation model is being replicated in central Chile through Oasis Central (1.4 GW of solar capacity and 5.1 GWh of storage) and exported to Spain through Iberian Oasis (1 GW of solar capacity and 3.2 GWh of BESS). Combined, the OASIS platforms represent a portfolio of 5 GW of solar capacity and 22 GWh of energy storage.
David Ruiz de Andrés, CEO of Grenergy, stated: “The largest energy sales agreement ever signed by Grenergy strengthens the visibility, stability and resilience of our business, while providing long-term coverage for Elena, the largest battery storage project in the Americas, which has the potential to double its capacity in a very short timeframe. This transaction further reinforces our presence in Chile and demonstrates the path forward for our hybrid platform strategy in Spain.”
